Beloved, if God so loved us,
we also must love one another.
No one has ever seen God.
Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us,
and his love is brought to perfection in us. (Jn 4:11-12)
Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Jesus Christ is the source and greatest example of selfless love. A love so encompassing, so unconditional, so complete that He would sacrifice His very life in the most awful way imaginable for us. Not only did He tell us that great love was a sacrificing love, He also lived it.
If we remain close to the heart of Jesus, we can never go astray.
It really is that simple.
If we remain close to the heart of Jesus, we will look out for the good of others rather than ourselves.
If we remain close to the heart of Jesus, we will accept all people instead of judging others.
If we remain close to the heart of Jesus, we will dispense mercy even as mercy is given to us for our iniquities.
If we remain close to the heart of Jesus, we could change the world.
So, why is our world in its present condition? Most likely because many have strayed from the Sacred Heart. They have forgotten the lessons of love that Jesus teaches. They have refused to be welcoming or merciful. In short, that have become selfish people.
There can be no place for Jesus’ vision in one who is self-absorbed.
FAITH ACTION: Spend some quality time with the Lord in prayer today. Ask Him to give you a heart like His. A heart that listens, that forgives, and that responds to the needs of all.
