Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and in his own house.”
And he did not work many mighty deeds there
because of their lack of faith. (Mt 13:57-58)
We are definitely a people who do not trust.
From the time we are very young, we are taught not to trust.
We are told to look at the bottom line, read the fine print, trust no one but ourselves, et cetera.
This, sadly, gets put into our relationship with God.
We begin to question everything that comes our way.
Why does this have to happen? Why couldn’t this happen instead? How long do I have to endure this? Why don’t other people have to go through what I am going through?
These questions, any many more, often run through our minds.
In the Gospel today, people questioned what they knew about the Lord. They thought that they knew Him through and through. Because of that, they would not, could not, put their faith in Him.
And because of that, we hear that He could not perform any miracles for them or among them, so deep was their lack of faith.
What kind of faith will the Lord find in us this day?
FAITH ACTION: In prayer this day, make a firm resolution to accept what comes your way from the Lord rather than question Him every step of the way.
