Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying:
“I pray not only for these,
but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
so that they may all be one,
as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
that they also may be in us,
that the world may believe that you sent me.” (Jn 17:20-21)
One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. Those are the four distinctive marks of the Church established by Jesus Christ. I would dare say that the Church cannot be Holy, Catholic, or Apostolic unless it, first, is One.
That was the great hope and prayer of Jesus Christ, that we may be one, as He is in the Father and the Father in Him.
We are called to be one.
In order to do so, however, we need to let go of the things that divide us. Too many people do not care about being one. They do not care about the other people that come into their lives. They only care about themselves.
When we quit caring about others, our lives become fractured. And like any fracture, once we develop one, it grows until it begins to affect our family and friends as well.
If we do not live as one, we risk losing it all.
