“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” ~ Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn boils the practice of the faith down into a very simple statement that reminds us that it’s entirely up to us. If we look for good in others, we will recognize their goodness. If we speak words of kindness, we will meet kindness. If we remember that God is always with us, we will walk upright and with integrity. The constant reminder that God is always present is a gamechanger.
If we think that God comes around every so often, we will be more prone to cut corners, to be less kind or faithful, to take the chance that we could sneak things without God seeing us. But God is never distant. He is always present. If we do not see him, it is because we have our backs to Him and are looking elsewhere in order to meet our needs.
Looking elsewhere has always gotten us into trouble. Nothing can suffice quite like the Lord. You’d think that we would learn that; but, we don’t. We often accept the temptation that comes our way, the empty promises of a world steeped in sin, and the illusions of the devil who works so hard to win us over.
Remember, we are in a battle: good against evil, faithfulness against sin, virtue against vice. We will come out victorious every time if we choose the Lord for our side. If we decide to do it on our own and to leave the Lord out of the picture? All bets are off.
Do it right. Stay with the Lord. He will be with you always.
FAITH ACTION: Act this day with the confidence of a person who knows that God is always present.
