Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to Jesus,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” (Jn 14:7-9)
One of the things that has always worried me has been that phrase spoken by Jesus: “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me?”
It is frightening to think that we could absolutely miss the Lord operative in our daily lives. Yet, we so often do.
It is easy to miss the Lord when we are consumed with getting things done our way, for our reasons and rewards. When we go about life trying to satisfy ourselves, we will miss the Lord.
However, if we open our minds and hearts to the reality of God, we will see Him.
He is present in the poor and needy. He is present in the good friend. He is present in the oppressed. He is present in everyone whom we encounter.
We just need to look for Him.
FAITH ACTION: In your prayer this morning, ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you in all your encounters this day.
