Taking the five loaves and the two fish,
and looking up to heaven,
he said the blessing over them, broke them,
and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
They all ate and were satisfied.
And when the leftover fragments were picked up,
they filled twelve wicker baskets. (Lk 9:16-17)
God’s love for us knows no bounds.
He created us in His image and likeness.
He became one of us in the mystery of the Incarnation.
He suffered and died for us so that we might live forever with Him.
Before He died, He gave us His Body and Blood, to nourish us on the way.
That great gift is what we celebrate today on this Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.
In His first miracle, Jesus turned approximately 180 gallons of water into wine for a wedding feast. In today’s Gospel, we hear about twelve baskets of leftover fragments being collected after a crowd was satisfied.
God has so much in store for us.
Let Him be as lavish in His love for you as He wants!
FAITH ACTION: Return God’s lavish love for you by dedicating some time simply to be with Him today. In quiet prayer, thank God for the great gift of the Eucharist.
