The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
Many are the troubles of the just man,
but out of them all the Lord delivers him. (Ps 34:19-20)
We are in the midst of the Easter season — a season that fills the Christian heart with the joy and hope of resurrection.
Just because a person is a Christian, however, does not mean that darkness or trouble will never enter his or her life.
Jesus, being truly human, knows what our humanity is all about. He knows that we suffer. He knows that we can become dejected. He knows what it means to be crushed. And, because He knows all of that, He is there to lift us up when we are bowed down, to carry our agonies, to relieve our sufferings.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
That is something that we need to remember and to count on.
FAITH ACTION: Are you suffering? Do things look unclear or uncertain to you? Hand them over to the Lord this day.
