Can a mother forget her infant,
be without tenderness for the child of her womb?
Even should she forget,
I will never forget you. (Is 49:15)
In the first reading from Isaiah, we hear that Zion feared that God had forgotten them, that God had forsaken them. God’s answer? “Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you.”
What a powerful message.
Through all my years, sadly, I have seen several mothers (and fathers) abandon their children. I have seen many ravaged children who would have been better off, one would think, if they were abandoned. I have seen immense cruelty.
God, however, is not a cruel God.
God’s love is immense, complete, eternal.
Even if our human mothers or fathers would forget their children, our God could never, would never, forget us.
FAITH ACTION: Pray for all of those who have been abandoned by their parents and for all the many children who have been or will be aborted.
