Go With The Flow

6 Jul

“The more you go with the flow of life and surrender the outcome to God, and the less you seek constant clarity, the more you will find that fabulous things start to show up in your life.”  ~ Mandy Hale

Looks like we will literally be going with the flow for this year’s retreat at St. Meinrad.  The weather forecast is for high heat and thunderstorms.  That means that it will also be muggy as all get-out here.  The mantra for this week will be “Thank God for air conditioning.”

When I am at St. Meinrad, even though it is uber hot in July, I like going for walks in the morning or evening, after the heat of the day has subsided.  I go to the rock garden to see the beauty therein.  I go to the monastic cemetery.  I go to the Marian Shrine a couple of miles away.  If we are going to experience thunderstorms, however, I guess any place that I go to will be in my imagination rather than in reality.

Does that mean that the week will not or cannot be effective?  Absolutely not.  The week will only be as effective as the amount of time I give to the Lord.  Weather doesn’t have anything to do with that.  If it’s pouring, the provide umbrellas at the doors so that we can attend prayers and Masses at Archabbey Church.

The weather doesn’t have to be a downer.  It can be an invitation to apply oneself even more to prayer and solitude.

FAITH ACTION Let what happens to you each day be an invitation to give yourself over to the Lord.
