Each Day Is Gift

18 Nov

“Honestly, I never really understood the glorification of Fridays & weekends.  I don’t want to build a life and career, where I spent five days a week waiting for the weekend. No!  I want to enjoy my life, and don’t wish any weekday away.  I want each day to matter to me, in some way, even if it’s a small tiny way.  I love my life.  Everyday. That’s the spirit we should convey all around us.”  ~ Akilnathan Logeswaran

We all know the type:  the people who wait for the weekend so that they can unwind/party/celebrate unceasingly.  And, when Monday morning arrives, return to work bleary-eyed and headache-bound because they partied too hard.  Their weekend was wasted away and the beginning of their week was miserable.  Then, once Thursday arrives, they begin to look forward to the weekend so that they can do the same thing again.

Doing so messes up both the weekends and the weekdays.

Instead, we need to develop an appreciation for each day.  There are so many blessings that come our way but we have to have our eyes open in order to see them.  If we distract ourselves with things yet to come, we will not be able to see or appreciate what we have right here, right now.

Today is the weekend.  What are your plans for the day?  Are you going to use it to decompress from the cares and concerns of the week?  Are you going to remember to take time for God?  Are you going to reconnect with family and friends you might have set aside throughout your work week?

The choice, quite frankly, is entirely yours.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to give you a deeper appreciation of the gift of each day, each hour, each moment in your life.
