“So now I tell you,
have nothing to do with these men, and let them go.
For if this endeavor or this activity is of human origin,
it will destroy itself.
But if it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them;
you may even find yourselves fighting against God.” (Acts 5:38-39)
Gamaliel was one smart cookie.
He knew what he was talking about.
You don’t win when you fight God.
Gamaliel, a teacher of the law — and also a teacher of St. Paul — wanted to keep the Sanhedrin from harming the apostles. The Sanhedrin was furious because the apostles had refused to quit preaching about Jesus and His resurrection.
Gamaliel’s advice was grudgingly accepted by the Sanhedrin. They let the apostles go after flogging them and warning them again.
So many times, we take up a fighting stance against life. We decide that we are going to do things our own way, on our own terms. God help anyone that gets in our way: including God!
Fighting God gets us nowhere.
God is calling us today, each and every one of us, asking us to accept His will.
Instead of fighting Him, let’s surprise Him and all say “yes”!
FAITH ACTION: Pray for those who attempt to keep the Word of God from being proclaimed. Pray, as well, for those harmed or killed for proclaiming the Word of God.
