“Blessed are your eyes, because they see,
and your ears, because they hear.
Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people
longed to see what you see but did not see it,
and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.” (Mt 13:16-17)
We really are a very lucky people. No. I take that back. We are not lucky. We are downright blessed!
I think I can pretty safely say that about anyone who is reading this reflection today. If you are reading this, you already have some kind of faith. If you have some kind of faith, you realize that God loves you incredibly and has done great things for you.
If you realize that, you are among the “blessed ones” of whom Jesus spoke in the Gospel.
Because we have seen and have heard, we do know that God is present in our lives.
The problem for all of us is that we often forget that wondrous reality when things do not go well. When we are upset or hurt or confused, we tend to forget that God is there, that He is present to us and available for us.
We have eyes to see. Open them today.
We have ears to hear. Listen today.
We have hearts to love. Pledge yourself to the Lord today.
FAITH ACTION: Count your blessings — literally — today. What have you seen and what have you heard? How has God blessed you?
