“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.” (Lk 10:41-42)
One thing is certain: we fill our lives with so many things as to cause, pretty much, constant anxiety.
That is because the world is filled with so many choices, so many options, so many opportunities. Most all of the choices presented to us on a daily basis, however, will lead us away from the Lord rather than toward Him.
That is the main problem.
We need to make the choice that Mary did in today’s Gospel.
Martha and Mary both received Jesus into their home.
Martha busied herself so much with the chore side of greeting a guest that she failed to take time to be with the guest.
Mary, on the other hand, took time to visit the Lord.
Martha was exasperated but, when she went to the Lord for some relief, found none. Jesus told her that Mary had chosen well and that her choice would not be deprived of her.
We have a myriad of choices to make. Many of them cause us huge anxiety.
The solution?
Look for the Lord and, when found, spend time with Him. He is the best choice we can make!
FAITH ACTION: Slow yourself down today and make time to spend with the Lord. Give Him your anxieties and simply relish His presence.
