REMINDER: It only takes one second to say:
– I love you.
– I apologize.
– Can we talk?
– You were right.
– I don’t want to be at odds.
Stop letting your pride and ego, hold you hostage from the happiness in life. ~ Jerome Trammel
I think we all know the old maxim, Pride goeth before the fall. Our pride and our ego often get in the way of what we should be doing in life. The simple fact of the matter is that we don’t want to be wrong and if we are, we certainly don’t want to admit it. We will deny being wrong at all costs. This can lead to many things including the loss of respect of family, friends, co-workers, or employers.
We have to be able to admit error. It is the only true way to grow and develop. After all, if we cannot admit that we have made a mistake, we do not position ourselves to correct that mistake. If we do not correct the mistake, well, we continue in error. That is most definitely the wrong direction to take in life.
When we are wrong and need to apologize to another person, it might help to remember that the other person has a problem admitting error as well. This can set up a situation where one gloats and another feels bad. That is all a part of human ego and needs to be set aside.
Jesus would have us meet one another in truth, integrity, and love. One of the special natures of love is that it is absolutely forgiving. Love desires the best for another person and therefore would never hold something over another.
Set aside pride and ego today and, instead, embody love.
FAITH ACTION: Ask God for the grace that you need to be humble, especially in situations where you know you are wrong.
