“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive — to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” ~ Marcus Aurelius
I have a couple of things that I often say when I am greeted by others. When asked how I am, I often say “I can’t complain. It won’t do any good.” The alternative response I give is, “I can’t complain. After all, I got up on the right side of the grass today.”
For the record, I probably could complain. If given the chance, I could probably make list upon list of things about which to complain. There’s always something going on, some chink in the armor, some wrinkle in the plans.
As I say, I could complain; but, then again, I really can’t complain.
Why?
Because God is doing so much good for me, my life, my world, our parish, our school, and our world. God knows what He is doing. If things get too stressful, God is there to help. I just need to remember to turn to Him.
The same holds for each and every one of us. Can we complain? Sure. There are things in our lives that are not going according to plan. But are we also given many blessings each day? Blessings that far outnumber anything about which we could complain? Absolutely.
It is a precious privilege to be alive today, to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. Let us make sure that we give God the thanks that is His due!
FAITH ACTION: As you look to a new day, count your blessings and give thanks to God for all that you have.
