My Favorite Ship?
“My favorite ship? Friendship… and the cruise ship, of course.” ~ Unknown
Last Saturday, I boarded the Independence of the Seas for a cruise to Bermuda. It was a five day cruise and it was the first cruise I have done that remained at a port overnight. We got into Bermuda Monday morning of this week and we did not sail away until Tuesday afternoon. All day Monday and Tuesday, passengers were free to come and go as they pleased.
The cruise was a back-to-back cruise for me. I remained on board when we returned to Port Liberty on Wednesday and began the cruise that I am now on: a nine-day Canada/New England cruise. I like cruising, yes, and I have done a lot of it since I retired at the beginning July this year. That is why I chuckled when I came upon the quote I am using for today’s reflection.
My second favorite “ship” is the cruise ship. My first favorite ship is friendship. We cannot get along in life with friends. Our parents tried to teach us that when we were very young because they knew that the secret to a less stressed life was to have friends to share the pains and joys along the way. As I have grown up, I found that to be so true.
That also relates to our spiritual lives. We will not have an easy go of it is we do not develop a close friendship with Jesus Christ. He truly is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. A life without Him is misery, pure and simple.
Is Jesus your friend? Does He know it or do you just claim the friendship without doing anything about it?
