Dedication Of The Lateran Basilica In Rome

9 Nov

Today is the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome.

That is a very important feast in the Church because the Lateran Basilica is the “home” church of the Bishop of Rome, our Pope.

On this day, then, I ask you to say a prayer for the bishop of the Universal Church, Pope Benedict XVI, that God continue to bless him as he guides Christ’s Church here on earth.

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to Your shepherd, Pope Benedict XVI, a spirit of courage and right judgement, a spirit of knowledge and love.

By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care may he, as successor to the apostle Peter and vicar of Christ, build Your church into a sacrament of unity, love, and peace for all the world.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

I would ask you, furthermore, to say a prayer for our local bishop, Bishop Dale J. Melczek.  Today is his 74th birthday.  May God bless him richly this day as he continues to serve the people of the Diocese of Gary.

FAITH ACTION:  Now that you have prayed for the bishop of the Universal Church and the bishop of our local Church, make sure to remember that you are the Church and live as witnesses of Christ’s love this day!
