Lineage

26 Dec

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming as men of old have sung.
It came, a flower bright, amid the cold of winter
When half-spent was the night.

The day after Christmas is often a “non-day” for many. Some are on Christmas holiday and do not have to go in to work, some are resting after the events of Christmas day, and some are just taking it easy.

Sadly, the day after Christmas, Christmas begins to be erased. The music stations that have played Christmas music since Thanksgiving go back to their regular format. Some people begin taking down decorations. Others go to stores to return or exchange gifts. It seems like very few spend the time thinking about Christmas.

Yesterday merely began a journey for us. We are just at the beginning of the Octave of Christmas. We will be celebrating Christmas liturgically for seven full days. After those seven days, we enter the Christmas Season until the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord.

If you’re decompressing from all the activity of yesterday, that’s more than fine. However, do not forget Christmas. Make sure that you keep it alive in your hearts so that you can share Christmas Peace and Christmas Joy with all those you encounter today.

FAITH ACTION: Take time in prayer today to appreciate Jesus’ coming to us in the mystery of the Incarnation.
