“Just think how happy you would be if you lost everything you have right now, and then got it back again?” ~ Frances Rodman

As I have said many times in the past, the problem with the “more” mentality is that people never takes the time truly to appreciate the blessings that they presently have.  There are all sorts of things that people can do.  They are talented in many ways.  Yet, they want more.  There are copious spiritual blessings that people have been given.  Yet, they can only see what they do not have.  There are many possessions that people have.  Yet, they do not think they have enough.

Frances Rodman poses the perfect question when she asks, “Just think how happy you would be if you lost everything you have right now, and then got it back again?”  Have you ever thought about that?  Instead of lamenting the things that you do not have, might it not behoove you to take stock of the things you do have?

I believe that most people would be surprised, maybe even shocked, to enumerate all the many blessings that have been given to them: physically, materially, and spiritually.  We always seem to take for granted that which we utilize day in and day out.  We forget that those are great blessings from God.

We take for granted that we might be able to walk unencumbered.  So many others have to use canes or walkers or might not be able to walk at all.  We take for granted that we can drive.  So many others have eyesight so poor that they cannot drive any more.  We take for granted that we have the gift to comfort someone in distress.  Others just make people more anxious because they do not know what to say or do.

Yes.  We have been given much.  If we lost all that we had, we would be in dire straights.  Instead of desiring more, take the time to appreciate what you truly have today.  Thank God for the gifts that you have.  Your litany should start, “Thank you, Lord, for the gift of life that you gave to me as I woke up this morning.”  That should help prime the pump.  Now, what else can you thank God for giving to you?

FAITH ACTION:  Take stock of all the gifts that you have and give thanks to God for blessing you so abundantly.
