Slow Down

“Life is not meant to just zoom from the womb to the tomb.  Slow down.  Enjoy the Journey!” ~ Unknown

Yesterday, as I was running errands, I noticed that the town had trucks out putting Christmas decorations up along the side of several of our roads.  When I was driving around in the evening, they were all lit up and announcing the season.

Christmas, it seems, begins earlier each year.  This year, a week or more before Halloween, many stores already had their Halloween candy on discount because they were filling their aisles with Christmas candy and goods.  We cannot celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving anymore without Christmas staring us in the face.

We do that with most of our lives.  We rush from place to place, encounter to encounter, experience to experience, all the while focusing upon what is yet to come.  Our minds and hearts get so into the future that we cannot even appreciate the present.  This cannot do us any good.

We definitely need to slow down.  Focusing upon the present rather than on what is to come will help us get as much possible out of each moment.  Today is too filled with richness to allow it to go by because we are already focusing upon tomorrow.  God is not missing today and going to show up tomorrow.  God is already here.

FAITH ACTION:  Chuck Girard wrote a wonderful song called “Slow Down”.  Take some time to reflect upon the lyrics:

In the midst of my confusion
In the time of desperate need
When I am thinking not too clearly
A gentle voice does intercede

Slow down, slow down, be still
Be still and wait, on the Spirit of the Lord
Slow down and hear His voice
And know that He is God

In the time of tribulation
When I’m feeling so unsure
When things are pressing in about me
Comes a gentle voice so still, so pure

Slow down, slow down, be still, my child
Be still and wait, on the Spirit of the Lord
Slow down and hear His voice
And know that He is God
And know that He is God
