If God is for us, who can be against us?  (Rom 8:31)

St. Paul does not have to say more than that to get us thinking.  If God IS for us, then WHO can be against?

The quick and easy answer?

No one!

St. Paul wrote this letter to the early Church that was being decimated by the Romans.  The Christians were being given the rather succinct choice of denying Christ and living or continuing to speak about Christ and getting killed.

Many in the early Church abandoned the faith out of fear for their lives.

Yet Paul reminded them that God was with them and that no one, no thing, could separate them from God and God’s love, not even the emperor himself.

This is a good reminder for us this day because we, too, often live in fear.  We think that other things and other people have great sway and power over us and we often are tempted to cave in to their power, to abandon our faith, to give up on our journey.

God is bigger than any problem we may have.  God can — and will — deliver us from anything we encounter as long as we place our faith and trust in Him.

If God is for us, who can be against us?!
