You Are Somebody’s Hero

“We relish news of our heroes, forgetting that we are extraordinary to somebody too.”
~ Helen Hayes

How often have we heard about somebody doing something extraordinary for another person and thought to ourselves, “I really wish that could be me someday?”  Listen up:  it most likely has been you!  We do not always see the good that we have done for other people, most likely because we feel that it was too small and/or not enough.  That, of course, is because we are always looking for the really big things in life.

It doesn’t take really big things.  The small acts of kindness that we do to and for others can be really big in their lives.  A kind word may be just what a person needs who feels that no one even notices him or her.  A kind gesture might warm a person’s soul more than we could ever imagine.  We don’t have to do incredibly large things, we just have to do good things on a consistent basis.

The fact of the matter is, we should not even be looking at whether something is large or small because, in doing so, we are probably doing things for the wrong reason.  The things that we do should not be for recognition or gold stars in heaven.  The things that we do should be done solely because our Lord has challenged us to love one another as He loves us.

Jesus never did anything for recognition.  He did things for people out of pure love.  Go and do the same.

FAITH ACTION:  Continue to help other people, not for praise, but, simply, because it is the right thing to do.
