Word

13 Jan

Receive the word of God, not as the word of men,
but as it truly is, the word of God.  (1 Thes 2:13)

The word of men.  That can be truly laughable because, after all, we know what the word of so many people means:  a whole lot of nothing.  In today’s world, people give their word quite easily.  However, they do not stand by their word.  Their word is meaningless and, after a while, no one will believe them.

The Word, though, is an entirely different story.

The Word of God, Jesus Christ, is a word that is synonymus with the truth.  The Word of God, brought into existence, spoke the truth about God’s love, about His care and concern for His creation.  That Word spoke to His people and asked them to respond to the Word by lives of faithful service.

We cannot count on the word of people.  Their word is often false.

We can count on the Word of God.

Since we can count on it, do not be afraid to receive it.  Bring it into your heart and into your life and let it speak to you, rich as it is.

FAITH ACTION:  Spend some time with the Word of God today in your daily prayer.  Read and reflect upon scripture, perhaps by reading some of your favorite Bible passages.
