What Do You Want?

20 Aug

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.  (Ps 23:1-3a)

There are so many things I want.

The list began when I was very young, as I am sure it did with you as well.

I remember my first “want”.  It was a Tonka truck.  I really wanted that truck.  More than wanted, the little tyke that I was definitely “needed” that truck.  I would do anything to get it.

There have been many wants since then:  walkie talkie, bicycle, car, jobs, et cetera.

We are all people who want.

What we really need, however, is something that we often fail to want:  the Lord.

The psalmist said it best.  The Lord is our shepherd.  We should want for nothing more.

How many of our “wants” are really necessary?  How many can we do without?

FAITH ACTION:  Ask the Lord to help you prioritize your wants so that nothing becomes more important than Him.
