We Wait In Silence

19 Apr

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss,
while a mighty wind swept over the waters.  (Gn 1:1-2)

Creation.

The story from Genesis is a profound story of how God formed everything out of nothing and called it all good.  But, there were large gaps of time between each action with a lot of waiting.

God’s people waited a very long time after the fall to be redeemed.  Their wait was filled with sorrow and pain, agony and confusion.  Their waiting often led them to doubt and despair.

We are in that same waiting period now as we remember the wait the disciples experienced between the burial of the Lord and His resurrection.  Only a few days, it must have felt like a lifetime.

The Church waits in silence this day for the celebration of the Vigil Mass of Easter.  As He asked of His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane, we ask of you now:  will you spend some time with the Lord in prayer this day?

FAITH ACTION:  Set aside a good chunk of time for silent prayer today.  Spend it with the Lord, asking Him to make sense out of all the waiting and worry and confusion that passes through your life.
