Trust In The Lord

21 May

Be sincere of heart and steadfast,
incline your ear and receive the word of understanding,
undisturbed in time of adversity.
Wait on God, with patience, cling to him, forsake him not;
thus will you be wise in all your ways.
Accept whatever befalls you,
when sorrowful, be steadfast,
and in crushing misfortune be patient;
For in fire gold and silver are tested,
and worthy people in the crucible of humiliation.
Trust God and God will help you;
trust in him, and he will direct your way.  (Sir 2:2-6)

It is easy for us to lose heart.

The human part of us wants everything to go well with our lives.

When we confront adversity, we tend to blanch.  We shy away.  We wonder what went wrong.  We retrace our steps.

In short, we do everything that we can to avoid adversity.

However, the reading from Sirach indicates to us that God puts us through “character building” of sorts in our lives.

When we face adversity, we are to remember that it can shape and mold us into something much more than we are already.

When we face adversity, we are to remember that we do not face it alone, that God is there with us, each and every step of the way.

When we face adversity, we are to trust.

From the time we are quite young, it seems that we are taught to distrust.  We learn what to do in all sorts of situations and that teaching often causes us to look on others with a huge degree of distrust.  We learn to “read between the lines”.  We think that others will use us for their own gain.

Trust in the Lord this day.

Complete trust in God will never leave us disappointed.

He will help us.

FAITH ACTION:  Because of what has happened to them in their lives, many people no longer trust anyone, even God.  Pray for them today, that they may let God into their hearts.
