Beloved, let us love one another,
because love is of God;
everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.
Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.
In this way the love of God was revealed to us:
God sent his only-begotten Son into the world
so that we might have life through him.
In this is love:
not that we have loved God, but that he loved us
and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. (1 Jn 4:7-10)
Love.
It is a word that makes some people giddy.
It is a word that worries other people.
It is a word that causes great anxiety and stress for still other people.
But love — true love — is freeing. It enables us to be the people we are called to be.
And the people that we are called to be? Quite simply, children of God.
We prove to the world that we are God’s children when we love one another.
Why love one another?
Because God loved us first and loves us best.
By following His example, we can learn to love like God.
Imagine what a different world this could be if people truly loved one another!
FAITH ACTION: In prayer this day, ask God to open your eyes to the numerous ways in which He expresses His love for you. And ask Him to help you love others more completely.
