The Word Of God Needs No Addition

24 Sep

Every word of God is tested;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Add nothing to his words,
lest he reprove you, and you will be exposed as a deceiver.  (Prv 30:5-6)

One of my favorite movies is “Oh, God”.  In it, George Burns plays the part of God who is calling one of his people, John Denver, a grocery store manager, to be a prophet.  John Denver attempts to follow God’s call and gets into a lot of trouble along the way.

At one point in time, John Denver meets a televangelist who is in the ministry for his own glorification rather than for God’s glory.  George Burns sends John Denver to see the televangelist at one of his functions with the words, “God says you should sell shoes.”

God knows our hearts.  He knows what we are thinking and why we are thinking it.

One of the things that displeases God is when people put His name to something that is not of Him.

We know plenty of people throughout the ages who have put God’s name into things that were totally not of God.  People have been killed in the name of God.  People have committed mass suicide following someone who claimed to be a man of God.

The truth always comes out.

I do not think any one of us would be able to bear God frowning on us.

If we do not want to incur that frown, we must live for the Lord rather than for ourselves.  We must give people His word and not our own.  We must be true to God rather than live a lie.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to give you the grace to live in the truth this day.
