The Only Proper Way To Begin Anything Is With Prayer

6 Sep

Jesus departed to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles.  (Lk 6:12-13)

It is amazing how often we go to an activity without much preparation.  So many people begin things unprepared and they end up in big trouble.  Things don’t work as they should and they end up in utter chaos.

As we do in our day-to-day lives, we often do in our spiritual lives.

We go off on our day without preparing spiritually.

Prayer is not just “something nice” to do.  It is a necessity.

Prayer grounds a person.  It calms a person.  It disposes a person to hear God more clearly.  It makes a person more humble.  It increases a person’s holiness.

Prayer is a good thing for us all.

Prayer is a wonderful communication with our God in which we get to spend time with our best friend, our lover, our Lord.

Jesus not only encouraged His followers to pray, quite often, throughout the gospels, he modeled the need to pray as well.  In the desert, on the mountain, in the Garden of Gethsemane, in all sorts of places, Jesus spent time with His Father.  It gave Him the strength to do what He needed to do.

Before we do what we need to do today, let us make sure we turn to our God in prayer.

FAITH ACTION:  Find some place in your schedule today to spend at least thirty minutes in silent prayer with God.  No agenda.  Just some good quality time with the Lord.
