The Lord Will Save Us

12 Oct

On that day it will be said:
“Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!
This is the Lord for whom we looked;
let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!”  (Is 25:9)

There are many times that we say, “The world is going to hell in a hand basket.  It cannot possibly get any worse!”  Sadly, if we live long enough, we usually concede that it can get worse and often does get worse.

When that realization hits home, we often lose hope.

We are in the midst of Respect Life month.  We know that we have a long way to go before life and the right to life is upheld in our country and our world.  At this point in time, there are more crimes committed against life each day than we care to count.  The unborn, the infirm, and the aged are all groups that have been targeted by legislation throughout the world.  It is not only legal to take their lives, it is often encouraged.

Because of all of this, we can easily put ourselves into the shoes of the people during the time of the Prophet Isaiah.  He lived in a time when the people of Israel lost all hope.  They did not think that their lives would ever improve or that their God would ever save them.

Isaiah gave words of hope as he spoke about the day of the Lord.  Quite often he would say, “On that day…”

On that day, God would visit His people.  On that day, God would redeem His people.  On that day, God would give His peoples’ lives meaning.

As an Easter people, we proclaim the words, “This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it!”

In a sense, we do not have to wait for “that day”.  It is already here.  And, if we use the grace that comes to us in Christ Jesus, we will have the wherewithal to change our world for the better.

FAITH ACTION:  Pray for all those who have lost any reason to continue that the Lord may touch their hearts and restore hope to them.
