The Lord Has Done Great Things For Us!

15 Aug

Mary said:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his Name.”  (Lk 1:46-49)

Unaware to Joachim and Anne, their daughter, when conceived, was preserved from the stain of original sin because she had been selected by God to be the mother of His Son, Jesus.

Because of Original Sin entering the world, all people born into the world would suffer and die.  Once created immortal and incorruptible, we assumed the mantle of mortality and corruptibility when sin entered the world.

It was that mantle that Mary shrugged off when she was conceived without the stain of original sin.

Because she was conceived without the stain of original sin, her body would not have to undergo corruption as yours and mine will do at the end of our days.

Hence, at the end of her life on earth, Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven to be at her Son’s side.

She is a reminder to us of God’s great love.  God can do whatever He wants.  And what He wants is for all of us to come home to Him.  That is why He sent His Son in the first place — to redeem us, to set us free from from sin and death.

Mary’s assumption into heaven is a direct result of her being preserved from the stain of original sin.

Our entry into heaven — if we live for Christ while here on earth — will be a direct result of the resurrection won for us when Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

Our bodies will corrupt and return to the dust from which they were made but our souls now have the opportunity to go home to God and to be with Him forever.

Hence, we, too, proclaim the greatness of the Lord for He has done great things for us!

FAITH ACTION:  Pray the glorious mysteries of the rosary today.  If you do not have time for the entire rosary, pray the fourth decade of the glorious mysteries: Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven.
