And the Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth. (Jn 1:14)
Today we celebrate a great mystery: God — who always was and always will be — took on flesh in the Incarnation and became one of us.
The all-powerful became a weak, helpless, tiny baby.
It is something that just blows the mind when you try to think about it.
Would anyone cast aside all power and glory to become poor and helpless?
Any one of us?
Not likely.
But God?
God loved us so much that He was willing to cast all aside because it was in doing so that He would be able to save us from sin and death, ultimately, by His death on the cross and resurrection three days later.
Christmas is not the most important feast. That would be Easter.
However, Christmas is where it all began for us.
Without His birth, there could be no death and resurrection.
Jesus is born to us. Glory dwelling in our land!
FAITH ACTION: Read slowly and carefully the following and attempt to take it into your heart:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
