The Challenge Of Holy Week And Beyond

24 Mar

The Lord God is my help,
therefore I am not disgraced;
I have set my face like flint,
knowing that I shall not be put to shame.  (Is 50:7)

We begin Holy Week today with the celebration of Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord.

On this day, we begin Mass with the blessing of palms and the first Gospel recounting the triumphal entry into Jerusalem by Jesus.

The crowds chanted, Hosanna to the King!  They were excited.  They were passionate.  They were acclaiming the Lord.

Those same crowds, shortly, would change their tune and begin shouting vehemently, Crucify Him, Crucify Him!

Jesus met much opposition.  His ministry was rife with people rejecting Him and plotting against Him.  Eventually, they would have their way and condemn Him to a shameful death.

Thus the followers of the Lord meet the same ridicule and contempt today.  The world still does not want to hear what we have to say.  It wants to have no part of the message of the Lord.

Like the Lord, we must set our face like flint, knowing that we shall not be put to shame.

Enter Holy Week today with confidence.

The Lord will not abandon us.

He will be at our side always.

FAITH ACTION:  Many may look down upon us because we are believers.  Do not let that disturb you.  Continue living the faith.
