Show Them

“We don’t want to tell our dreams. We want to show them.”  ~ Cristiano Ronaldo

There are many times that people have something bad or wrong attributed to them.  No matter how hard they try, they can never seem to set the record straight.  There are too many people out there who claim that those people said or did something.

There are also times that something good gets attributed to people that are not true.  Probably one of the most famous ones, at least in Church circles, is the presumed quote from St. Francis:  “Preach the gospel at all times. And if necessary, use words.” There have been historians and Church scholars throughout the years who have said that the quote is not from St. Francis.  However, he will probably get the credit for it until the end of the world.

Either way, the sentiment holds.  We know that we can teach by two different means:  words and example.  Often, example is the exemplar teacher.  When someone sees us doing something, it carries much more weight than if they merely hear us saying something.  After all, we can say anything.  That doesn’t necessarily mean that it is true or relevant.  However, if we live what we say, we must truly believe it.

“We don’t want to tell our dreams.  We want to show them.”  How many of us dream about peace and justice?  How many of us dream about the Kingdom of God?  How many of us dream about love and mercy?  If we dream these lofty ideals, we should be ready to live them.  If we tell people about these things but live as wretched sinners, why would they give us any credence at all?  However, if we tell people about our dreams and live them out to boot, they will take us much more seriously.  We might even win them over.

Jesus told us about His dreams.  He was willing to go the extra mile and live those dreams.  He didn’t just speak about mercy, He was merciful.  He didn’t just speak about healing, He healed others.  He didn’t just speak about love, He proved His love for us by dying on the cross.

What are your dreams?  Can others see them?
