Many people wait for the “perfect time”. They wait for that perfect moment when they can best accomplish something. Until that perfect time comes, though, they do nothing except wait. And wait. And wait. The perfect time may never come. There may always be some reason to refrain from doing something. When you think about it, a lot of wasted opportunity goes into the waiting.
“Now is the perfect time.” That is the attitude that we need to take. Now is the perfect time. Not later, not tomorrow, not next week, but now. When we decide to do something immediately, we have the opportunity to make a positive impact in people’s lives. If we do not take the opportunity, nothing will get done.
I know that I can sound like a broken record at times. I have said this before: too many people wait for the perfect opportunity because they think that they need to do something “big” in order to make a difference. While they wait for that big opportunity, many smaller opportunities are left by the wayside, opportunities that could have positively affected other people.
Do not wait. Seize the moment. If an opportunity to do good comes our way, we should do the good. The chance may not come our way again. If we do the good, we might change a person’s life for the better. Is that not what God wants us to do? Did Jesus not commission us to proclaim the Good News? Should we not reach out to others and give them what God has entrusted to us? Of course we should.
Some might say that our world is too fragile a place, too risky a place, too dangerous a place to do good for others. What we do might be misinterpreted. What we do might open us up to being used by others. What we do might get us in trouble. Yes. It might. We might be talked about. We might be misunderstood. We might be used. But if we can make a positive difference, let it be.
The world was a fragile and dangerous place for Jesus. He came to proclaim the Good News. He healed the sick and raised the dead and they crucified Him for it. He knew it would happen but He loved us too much to deny us the help we needed. Let us love others in the same manner.
