See It

“This is a wonderful day.  I’ve never seen it before.”  ~ Maya Angelou

I often think about the conversation Jesus had with His disciples when they questioned Him about what was happening.  He asked them if they remembered the miracles of the loaves and fishes.  They said they remembered.  Then He asked them about other events and they said they remembered.  Then He asked them why they did not understand.  They had seen all that Jesus recounted to them but they were utterly clueless.

“How could they miss what was right in front of them?” I would often ask myself.  But then I think about the many times that I have seen marvelous sunrises or sunsets and pointed them out to others who had not paid attention.  Or myriad of twinkling stars in the sky that go unnoticed by others.  Or the kindness paid to someone forlorn while everyone else doesn’t even see the person.  There are, in short, many things in our daily lives that go unnoticed.

I think that is what Angelou is pointing out in today’s quote, “This is a wonderful day.  I’ve never seen it before.”  Yes.  It is a wonderful day.  However, if one does not pay attention to it, one could miss it completely because we have never seen it before and we will never see it again.

This day, this very moment, comes and then passes.  If we see it and embrace it, so much the better for us since it is a wonderful gift from God.  If we do not see it, we cannot embrace it and, therefore, will miss out on all that God has in store for us in this moment of our lives.

Life is too short to go about with eyes closed.  Open your eyes and see all the beauty around you.  It is only here for this very moment.

FAITH ACTION:  This IS a wonderful day.  See it.  Embrace it.  Live it to the full for the very gift that it is.
