Recalls

“Happiness is hard to recall. It’s just a glow.” ~ Frank McCourt

Recalls seem to be a regular part of our lives.  How many times have we purchased automobiles and found out that they had been recalled in order to fix some huge problem in the brakes or steering mechanism or tires or other part?  Just recently, we have been hit with a spate of food recalls.  Not too long ago, there was a recall on ground beef.  More recently, romaine lettuce.  And now, eggs.  It makes one think twice about eating.

Recalls can be quite frightening.  We can genuinely be concerned about our health and well-being.  After all, the tainted products now can produce salmonella and that can take a devastating health toll on us.  It can even kill us.

Recalls, however, happen over and over again.  We have to be cautious and wise when it comes to examining products.  We have to be vigilant and pay attention to any warnings about products we purchase so that we can act quickly if a recall is published.

Ultimately, we have to be ready for our own recall.  After all, one day, God is going to call us back to Himself.  At that time, it will not be because we are tainted or spoiled or can harm others.  It will be because we have been completed.  We have done what has been expected of us on earth.  The author of the Book of Wisdom speaks of it as being “proved” as gold in the furnace.  When we are finished, God takes us to Himself.

The recalled products — beef, lettuce, eggs — will all be cast away.  When we get recalled, however, we will be able to live in the splendor and glory of God.  That is one recall to which we can look forward!
