Quit Struggling

7 Dec

Jesus said to the crowds:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”  (Mt 11:28-30)

We often believe that we have to “go it alone”.  When something big happens to us or to our family or friends, we sometimes think that we have to take care of things, we have to fix things, we have to be the ones responsible.

We all know where that leads us: fatigue, depression, anger, despair and the like.  Others, who see what is happening to us, may ask us if they can help.  Our curt answer?  “No.  I’ve got to do this on my own.”

Why?  Why should we feel that we have to do it on our own?  Especially when so many others are willing to lend a hand.

That is the way we often approach our faith lives as well.  For one reason or another, we cut God out of the picture.  We think that we have to do it all on our own.

Can any one of us assure ourselves of salvation?  We need God.  We need His love.  We need His mercy.  We need His forgiveness.  We need the redemption won for us by Jesus Christ, His Son.

Hence, we need to quit pushing God out of our lives.  Let Him in!  He is willing to take our yoke upon Himself in exchange for His yoke.  He is meek and humble of heart and would never unduly burden us.  He wants to make it as easy for us as possible.

Let go of the need to do it on your own.  Embrace God.  Let Him work for you.  Feel His love this day.

FAITH ACTION:  Have you been overburdened with care lately?  Give that burden to the Lord and ask Him to shoulder it for you.
