Promise Kept

8 Nov

The Lord has made his salvation known:
in the sight of the nations he has revealed his justice.
He has remembered his kindness and his faithfulness
toward the house of Israel.  (Ps 98:2-3)

People, generally, are really good about making promises.

People, generally, are really good about breaking promises.

Sad; but, true.

We make promises about everything.  We promise that we are telling the truth.  We promise that we will accomplish some task.  We promise that “everything will be all right.”

We promise so many things, many well outside the realm of possibility.

But, God?

God is one who not only makes promises — God keeps promises.

The Father promised to send a deliverer.  He did:  Jesus.

Jesus promised to save His people.  He did:  He died on the cross for us and rose from the dead.

Jesus promised that we would never be left alone and that He would send us help.  He did:  The Holy Spirit came down upon His people at Pentecost and still showers blessings upon is in our lives today.

God has never — NEVER — made a promise that He has not kept.

We celebrate that this day and ask Him to help us keep our promises.

FAITH ACTION:  Have you disappointed or hurt someone by not keeping a promise?  See what you can do to mend that situation today.
