Prepare For The Spirit

19 May

The Advocate, the Holy Spirit
whom the Father will send in my name–
he will teach you everything
and remind you of all that I told you.  (Jn 14:26)

There are many things we, because of our human nature, do not like to do.

One of them, quite frankly, is to wait.

We are awful when it comes to waiting.

We first experience the angst of waiting when we are very young.  Waiting for a parent to come home so that we can go out was awful.  Waiting for the seasons to change was horrible.  Waiting for Christmas to come — and with it, all of our presents — was mind-numbing.

We are in the midst of waiting in the liturgical life of the Church.

Easter was celebrated over a month ago.

Right now, we are in that waiting period for the celebration of Pentecost.

Jesus told His followers that the Holy Spirit would be given to them.  He told them this right before He ascended to heaven.

While they waited, the apostles lived in fear.

We, too, often spend our days in dread.

The truth is that Jesus died in order to free us from fear.

Let go of all that hinders you and allow the Spirit to move through your life today.

FAITH ACTION:  Pray the Act of Consecration to the Holy Spirit.

Act of Consecration to the Holy Spirit

O Holy Spirit,
Divine Spirit of light and love,
I consecrate to Thee my understanding,
heart, and will,
my whole being for time and eternity.
May my understanding be always submissive
to Thy heavenly inspirations,
and to the teaching of the Catholic Church,
of which Thou are the infallible guide;
may my heart be ever inflamed
with love of God and of my neighbor;
may my will
be ever conformed to the divine will;
and may my whole life
be a faithful imitation of the life
and virtues of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
to whom with the Father and Thee
be honour and glory forever. Amen.
