There’s No Escaping God

26 Aug

Where can I go from your spirit?
From your presence where can I flee?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I sink to the nether world, you are present there.  (Ps 139:7-8)

One thing is certain:  our God is omnipresent.  He is everywhere.  Always.  There is no escaping that reality.

That does not always sit well with His people.  Our human nature tends to want to be alone from time to time.  We try to get away from things that bother us, from things that confuse us, and from things that demand certain things of us.

That includes the desire, from time to time, to get away from God.

Our human nature would rather not think about God’s challenge to remain faithful.  We do not like to reflect upon God’s desire for us to accept His will for us.  We would prefer to be in charge of our own lives, not dependent upon another, even if that “other” is God.

The psalmist hit it on the head, though.  Where can we go from God’s spirit?  Where can we flee from His presence?  God is everywhere.  And that presence demands a certain response from us.

God is not a threat.  He is a great help to us and the sooner we come to accept the ever-present God in our lives, the more secure in our faith we will be.

Can you imagine what the world would become if every single person who inhabits this planet acknowledged God, accepted His leadership, and embraced His will?  That would be the closest to heaven that we would be able to get on this earth.

Who is to say that is not possible?

It starts with one person.  Let that person be you today.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask the Lord to remain close to you and to reveal to you His will for you this day.
