Do You Want To Be Unstoppable?

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. That is a saying that I learned when I was very young. I was always intrigued by that quote. Why, if you led a horse to water, would it not drink? It was beyond me. I assumed that the horse would be incredibly thirsty and would be happy to see an abundance of water. I never considered that the horse might not be thirsty or might just be so obstinate as to not do what its handler wanted it to do.
We are very much like that proverbial horse from time to time. The Lord leads us to rich, life-giving waters. But, sometimes, since we have filled ourselves on the waters of the world, we are not thirsty — even though we might be spiritually parched within. Other times, the Lord might lead us to life-giving waters but we are hard-hearted and, in our obstinate nature, refuse to drink of that which would save us.
We are very fickle like that. We might complain about being thirsty but refuse to drink if someone else brought us to the waters. We wanted to come to the water on our own and we are not happy that it was given to us by someone else. To partake of those waters under those circumstances would make us beholding to the other. At least, that is the way we might view it.
It is time to quit being stubborn. It is time to quit hardening our hearts. Rather, it is time to recognize the great gifts that God gives to us on a regular basis and to partake of those gifts for the benefit of our own salvation. Why let pride or arrogance get in the way?
Let God lead you. There is no harm in that. As a matter of fact, it can bring you nothing but good because God would never lead His people astray. As a matter of fact, instead of going astray, it will make you unstoppable. Led by the Lord, sin would have a hard time swaying you.
FAITH ACTION: Examine your life and see if you have become hardened of heart. If so, you might consider going to confession today. It is available at most parishes on Saturday afternoons.
