Be Happy And Make Others Happy

“Whoever is happy will make others happy too.”  ~ Anne Frank

Have you ever seen a person who gripes and groans and grouses inspire someone else to be happy?  Have you ever seen a “gloomy Gus” inspire someone else to feel good?  Have you ever seen a sad person inspire happiness and hope in another?  Yeah.  Neither have I.  When we see the aforementioned, we generally want to get away from them as quickly as possible because they bring us down.  Nothing can make a happy person crash quicker than being around someone who is sad or dejected.

I know people who feel upset when they are happy while others are sad.  They think something is wrong with themselves.  They do not want to be around those people because they do not want to make the sad people feel even sadder or guilty for being sad.  What sad or dejected people need, though, is someone who can bring them joy and hope.  They need happy people.

There is nothing wrong with you if you are happy.  As a matter of fact, if you are happy, you are exactly where God wants you to be.  God created us for happiness.  He created us for life.  He created us for love.  God did not have a line to make sad people or a line to make dejected people.  He did not have a line to make forlorn people or a line to make people who will give up.  The only line God has is to give light, joy, and love.

You know for yourself that, if you are around someone who is incredibly happy, happy people can make you happy.  I know.  There is a limit.  Sometimes someone can be too happy for us, especially if we are down in the dumps.  But, it is not their fault and we should not deprive them of their joy.  Instead, we should look at their reasons for happiness and try to embrace them for ourselves.

If you are happy, share that joy with others, especially those you feel are most in need.  If you are sad, look for a happy friend or coworker and let their joy snap you out of your sadness.  In the midst of this global pandemic in which we are fearful of getting others sick, have no fear about spreading the joy that is in your heart.  That is something we want others to catch and to spread.

FAITH ACTION:  Engage in volunteer work or other forms of ministry that bring joy to you because, as your joy increases, so will the joy of those around you.
