Filled With Good News

“Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news.  The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be!  How much you can love!  What you can accomplish!  And what your potential is!”  ~ Anne Frank

Our human nature can be described at times as a bit bizarre.  There are times when we yearn for things that we know can be bad for us, celebrate things that are unjust, and ignore that which we ought to do.  At the same time, there is a part of us that desires to do good, to be kind and loving, and to be accepted by everyone.  It is difficult living those two separate realities.  Have no doubt about it.  We straddle those two realities over and over again.

I think one of the reasons we do so is because we do not have an appreciation or understanding of who we are in the sight of the Lord.  As human beings in a material universe, we often gauge ourselves according to the values and estimation of the world.  We want to be popular, successful, wealthy, and all the other things that the world promises.  Living in a sinful, corruptible world, we forget that the values of the world cannot assure us of what our souls truly desire:  eternity with God.

Body versus soul.  That is the real struggle.  Our body longs for the promises of the world and our soul yearns for God.  They tug against one another.  When we are in a right frame of mind, our souls guide us as to who we are and what we are to do.  When we lose focus and perspective, our mortal nature takes over and tells us that the realm of the spiritual doesn’t matter.

We are filled with good news.  We are filled with love.  We are filled with God.  We have to allow Him to shine forth in our daily lives.  In order to do so, we have to make a conscious decision and effort to deny the tug of the world.  It can promise but, ultimately, it cannot deliver.  God, on the other hand, has promised and delivered.  God is the only one who can guarantee us eternal life with Him.  God is our only true hope.

Allow yourself to be guided by the Spirit today.  Allow the desires of your soul to be realized.  In doing so, you will be able to see the hope and promise that dwells within you.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to reveal all that He has given to you and to give you the humility to accept and acknowledge those many gifts and to use them for the betterment of all.
