How Well You Have Lived Your Life?

17 Apr

“Not how long, but how well you have lived is the main thing.”  ~ Seneca

There are many people who want to live a long time.  They think that a long life is important because it reflects a blessed life.  As a matter of fact, the Old Testament people often considered those who died young as being cursed or somehow in disfavor with God.

I agree with Seneca.  It’s not exactly the length of days that is important as what we did with our days.  If someone lives many years but is totally disreputable, what good is that?  If someone lives many years but is dishonest, has no friends, and/or has never made any contribution to other people, what good is that?

Our lives are supposed to be lived for the Lord and if we live our lives accordingly, we will look out for the benefit of others.  Doing that, it doesn’t matter whether we lived a long time or a short time.  What will have mattered is that we made a positive impact in other people’s lives.
