Our Savior

5 Dec

On that day it will be said:
“Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!
This is the LORD for whom we looked;
let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!”  (Is 25:9)

We all look to be saved, don’t we?

From the time we are very young, we look for “saviors”.  They come in all sorts of “sizes”.

When we are babies, our saviors are our parents.  They are the ones who nourish us, nurture us, love us, protect us.  They come to our aid in all sorts of ways.  They are the first teachers to us about giving and receiving love.  Without that love, we would have never thrived.

As we grow older, our saviors come to us in the form of friends, best friends, first loves, spouses.  Each of those people play a critical role in our growth and development.  Without the support of those people, we would find ourselves stunted socially and emotionally.

It stands to reason, then, that we look to the Lord for strength and support as well.

God promised to send a Savior after the great debacle when His people turned their backs on Him and sin entered the world, effectively cutting us off from our heritage.  Suffering and death entered the world.  God promised to save us from the shackles of sin and death.

God made good on that promise when He sent us His Son.

His Son made good on that promise when He suffered and died on the cross and rose again on the third day effectively destroying death and restoring life.

He is the reason for our hope and our joy!

FAITH ACTION:  As we look for “saviors” in our personal lives, let us be mindful that other people may have chosen us for support, care, and love.  Let us make sure that we give others our all today.
