More Than A Ritual – A Way Of Life

5 May

“For faithful Catholics, communion is not just a nice ritual: It is the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and the ultimate sign of our willingness to be incorporated into the church.”
~ Maggie Gallagher

We do not mess around. When it comes to the Eucharist, we do not believe that it is a symbol. We do not believe that it merely represents something else. We do not believe that it is only bread and wine. No. We believe that, at the moment of consecration, the bread and wine are changed into the Body and Blood of Christ and when we receive the Eucharist, we receive Jesus Christ: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

That sets us apart from other Christian sects which look at their communion as merely a representation, a reminder of what Jesus did at the Last Supper, but not as His Body and Blood.

We believe Jesus’ words, “My flesh is true food and my blood true drink.” When we partake of Holy Communion, we partake of the Lord and, in doing so, find ourselves bound not only to Jesus but to one another. The Eucharist makes us one.

In this world in which we live, we so desperately need help. We need help to stay on the path that leads to the Kingdom. The Eucharist is that help to us. It nourishes us. It sustains us. It keeps us from starving spiritually.

When you come to the Table of the Lord, come with confidence, come with joy, come with hope. Jesus gives Himself to us because He loves us dearly. Nourished by His Body and Blood, let us take His love into our world so that the world can experience the same peace and joy that we have within ourselves.

FAITH ACTION:  Kindly pray for our third graders who receive the Eucharist for their first time this morning.
