Mighty Works And Wondrous Deeds Are His

10 Oct

I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart
in the company and assembly of the just.
Great are the works of the Lord,
exquisite in all their delights.  (Ps 11:1b-2)

Look outside.  Look all around you.  You will be able to see signs of God’s grandeur wherever you look.

See the flowers and trees?  They are part of God’s creation.  See the bright, fluffy clouds?  They are part of God’s creation.  See and hear the birds chirping?  They are part of God’s creation.  See your mother, father, husband, wife, children, family, or friends?  Yep.  They are a part of God’s creation.

God’s bounty surrounds us.  Reminders of His love and His care are all a part of our lives.

When we see all of this, we are moved to give thanks.

There are many times that I am outside and I see a particularly stunning sunrise or sunset.  I cannot help but look enthralled at it and practically shout out, “Thank you, God!”

Thanksgiving is something that is — or should be — a normal part of our lives when we encounter God’s handiwork.

When we fail to thank God, it is often because we are not looking at His work and recognizing it for what it truly is.  Instead, we take His work for granted.  Perhaps we think that we are entitled to it.  Or maybe we just forget that it is God who has created us and who has created all around us.

Failing to recognize God in His wondrous works, we fail to show God our appreciation.

Failing to appreciate, we begin to lose sight of God.

Losing sight of God makes us begin to try to do everything on our own.

Doing things on our own, without God’s help, well, that is just a recipe for disaster.

It is amazing to think that the recipe for success begins with an honest, heart-felt “Thank you” to our Lord.

FAITH ACTION:  Think of the many blessings in your life and take the time to thank God for them all.
