Members Of The Household Of God

28 Oct

Brothers and sisters:
You are no longer strangers and sojourners,
but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones
and members of the household of God,
built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets,
with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.
Through him the whole structure is held together
and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord;
in him you also are being built together
into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.  (Eph 2:19-22)

Today we celebrate the feast of Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles.

Apostles literally means “one who is sent”.

Jesus called His Apostles and sent them into the world to proclaim the Good News of His kingdom.  They went forth in power and faced all sorts of hardships, taking the stories of Jesus with them and performing great works among the people.

Because of the power of their testimony as well as the manner in which they lived their lives, they won over many people to the faith.

The Apostles left us a rich body of tradition and a rich core of teachings.

Now, their job is ours.

Jesus calls us to go into our world and tell the Good News.  Will you be a willing herald this day?

FAITH ACTION:  In prayer today, reflect upon the Apostles’ Creed and the meaning that it has for you.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ,
his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again
from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand
of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.
