Know What It Means

27 Nov

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!  What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store.  What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

There are a lot of people, around this time of year, who begin to turn their thoughts to Christmas.  Well before Thanksgiving, they are already decorating, playing Christmas music, and talking about Christmas.  While all of that might be fine, many of those people quit celebrating when the day finally arrives.  The day after, they are already looking forward to Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, or Easter.

We have to think about the things we believe and celebrate.  If we do not reflect upon them seriously, we risk falling into the trap of mere repetition of movement rather than of true celebration.  We “observe” the days of our lives without thinking about their true meaning.  Many people call that “falling into a rut.”

Our live is too serious for that.  We cannot allow ourselves to fall into a rut.  Take the time today to reflect upon the faith.  Be serious in all that you say and do.  Remember that the day is more than just that.  What if it is not just another day to go to work.  What if it is not just another day to go to school.  What if it is not just another day to do our chores.  What if it is a great gift from God given to us to be used and cherished.

That certainly means a whole lot more!

FAITH ACTION:  In your day-to-day living of the faith, take time to think about what it is you believe.
